Supporting Civic Engagement and Informed Participation: League of Women Voters

The Foundation is proud to support the League of Women Voters to help advance their work in delivering nonpartisan voter education, civic engagement, and advocacy.

Democracy is strongest when people are informed, engaged, and empowered to participate in the decisions that shape their communities. As one of the Columbus Bar Foundation’s 2026 grant recipients, the League of Women Voters continues its longstanding mission of helping individuals understand the issues that affect their lives, access reliable election information, and participate fully in the democratic process.

Founded in 1920 in the wake of the women’s suffrage movement and the ratification of the 19th Amendment, the League was created to help newly enfranchised women exercise their right to vote and become active participants in government. More than 100 years later, the organization remains dedicated to empowering voters and strengthening democracy through education, outreach, and civic participation.

Today, the League serves communities across the country by providing nonpartisan voter resources, organizing candidate forums and public discussions, promoting voter registration, and helping residents better understand public policy issues. The organization encourages informed and active participation in government while remaining independent of political parties and candidates.

The Columbus Bar Foundation's support helps advance efforts that strengthen civic knowledge and encourage meaningful community engagement. By equipping voters with trustworthy information and opportunities to participate in public life, the League helps foster a more informed electorate and a stronger democracy.
