Practice Groups & Networks Pause, Connect, & Reset in December:
The Value of Belonging in a Disconnected World

This year, over 2,000 CBA members met with each other — a compelling reflection of our commitment to our profession and each other. Now, as the year winds down and we begin to reflect, our practice groups and professional development networks will pause in December and return in January with renewed purpose.

The legal profession has changed dramatically in recent years. Remote work, digital CLEs, and online communication have made it easier than ever to stay informed — but harder than ever to feel connected. For many attorneys, the sense of belonging that once came from shared spaces and local relationships has faded.

That’s why the Columbus Bar Association’s mission is more important than ever. The CBA provides something technology can’t — a community that listens, supports, and grows together. From professional development networks and practice groups to networking events and advocacy efforts, the CBA helps attorneys stay rooted in a profession built on relationships and shared purpose.

Belonging isn’t a luxury. It’s what keeps our profession strong, ethical, and human. Every hour spent with the CBA — every membership, every connection — is an investment in that sense of belonging and in the health of our entire legal community.

What you can do now:

  • Look ahead at our group listings — whether it’s a substantive practice group (e.g., Bankruptcy, Real Property) or a professional development network (e.g., Wellness, Small Firm/Solo Practitioner) — identify where you want to plug in next year.
  • Identify one action to help support the community: perhaps co-hosting a session, presenting a case study, mentoring a colleague, or simply attending more regularly.
  • Resolve to reach out to a fellow member, schedule coffee, or catch up with a colleague; you won’t regret it, and you both will cherish it.

The Columbus Bar Association’s work to strengthen and safeguard Central Ohio’s legal community is only possible because of members like you who invest in yourselves, each other and our community. Thank you for being an active member of your local bar — the Columbus Bar Association.
