Alert: New Scam Asking Residents to Quickly Pay a Fine or Appear at the Franklin County Municipal Court

The Franklin County Municipal Court and the Franklin County Municipal Clerk issued a joint press release today about a new scam.

Please be aware of a new scam that has similarities to previous attempts to defraud residents. This scam is sent via text messages, claiming people have unpaid parking ticket(s). They are asked to follow a link to pay or to appear in court and may be given a specific date and time.

The scam asking people to appear in court at a specific date and time is a new variation of the fraud.

We are advising people about this scam and asking that they not appear, unless they have a scheduled hearing on a pending case currently in the court.

People can go online to see if they have an existing case with the Franklin County Municipal Court at fcmcclerk.com/case/search

People who receive these text messages should report them to their local law enforcement agency.
