Overview of MCP Mentorship Program

Week 1 - Getting to Know You (Feb. 27th to March 10th)

Mentor and mentee discuss interests both in and out of law and get to know each other

Week 2 - Setting Goals (March 13th to March 24th)

Mentee will think of desired goals of both the mentorship and the summer clerkship. Mentor will work with mentee to make goals achievable and discuss actionable steps to achieve goals.

Week 3 - Clerking (March 27th to April 7th)

This week mentors are encouraged to talk to their mentee about their clerkship experience(s) and what they wish they would have known before starting. The mentor is also encouraged to talk about what it is like to have a summer clerk workig in the office from a manager’s perspective.

Week 4 - Why MCP? (April 10th to April 21st)

With so many clerkship program opportunities out there, why is MCP so important? This week’s focus will be on what it means to be a minority in the legal field.

Week 5 - Goal Check-In (April 24th to May 5th)

This week it is time to check in on the goals agreed upon by the mentor and the mentee. What steps have been made or started in accomplishing those goals? Do any goals need to be rethought, added, or subtracted?

Week 6 - Review of Mentorship and Looking to the Future (May 8th to May 19th)

During the final mentorship session, mentors and mentees will revisit some of the important discussion points from the previous weeks, tying it all together. Mentors and mentees will also spend time discussing the mentee’s clerkship and future career.
