Why did you decide to be a solo attorney participating in Columbus Bar inc?
Since high school, I have dreamed of opening my own law firm someday. As a new attorney in 2013, I face the dual challenge of gaining legal experience while also managing my own business. The Columbus Bar inc. program will be a valuable resource in learning the profession and the best practices of law firm management. The inc. program provides networking opportunities with practitioners to discuss the "lessons learned" that will support my efforts to be a successful attorney. There are programs that will be provided by CBA staff as well as CLEs that are available to program participants that will also assist in those efforts. Furthermore, I will find the individual mentoring from Columbus finest attorneys in my interest areas to be beneficial, while also providing needed legal services to low income residents.
What area(s) of law does your solo practice focus on?
I plan to have a general law practice with a special emphasis on Estate Planning/Probate as well as Alternative Dispute Resolution, specifically evening mediations.
What made you choose your primary area of law?
It is my belief that as an attorney the goal is to always help your clients. I have seen personally the stress and pressure a family can be under while at the same time grieving a loved-one. I would work to ensure that any loved one represented by my office would have their property in order to ease the pressures on the grieving family. Additionally, being a mediator takes a special skill set of listening to the wants of the two parties and finding common ground for compromise. I have been fortunate to develop and exercise those specific skills throughout my career and while attending law school.
What will make your law firm unique?
My law firm will strive to be a professional atmosphere that is focused on the client's needs. Typically, a client is coming to an attorney in some of their most desperate times with very limited resources. My firm will respect that the client is seeking representation in their time of need and treat the matter with the seriousness it deserves.
