The Civil War Group is an informal collection of judges, attorneys, and others who share an interest in Civil War history. Approximately once a month from September to June, the group meets at the Columbus Bar Association offices at noon to hear a presentation on a topic related to the Civil War. The topic can be a battle or campaign, a particular historic individual, a law-related subject such as a court martial or famous trial, or an account of a trip to a Civil War site that a member has visited. There are no dues, no attendance requirements, and no formality. We do ask to get an e-mail address so we can send you notice of future meetings.
The group is a great way to get to know your fellow judges and attorneys as people in a friendly collegial setting, away from the rigors of the legal practice. New recruits are welcome, and non-attorneys are invited to attend as guests. If you can't attend, MP3 recordings of prior talks are posted on this page.
We hope you will join us to share in the exploration of this fascinating and important era in American history.
September 10, noon to 1:00pm
Judge Jeff Sutton of the US 6th Circuit Court of Appeals will give a presentation titled "Major Battles of the Civil War Era: The Legacy of Lincoln and the Supreme Court."
