Racial Profiling Task Force

Several things lead to the work of the Racial Profiling Task Force - joint sponsorship with the ABA and other bar associations to sponsor legislative action to collect data on the use of racial profiling in connection with traffic stops and other police action; Board support, consistent with the that resolution, urging the passing of H.B. 363 that sought to require Ohio law enforcement officers to gather racial and other data concerning traffic stops; and the suit filed by the United States Department of Justice against the city of Columbus alleging that the Columbus Police Department had engaged in a pattern of civil rights violations respecting central Ohio citizens. With these issues in mind, the Board of Governors appointed the Racial Profiling Task Force to explore the existence and implications of racial profiling in the region.
