Committee Chair Duties and Responsibilities

All committee chairs and members must be members in good standing with the Columbus Bar Association. The President appoints, at his/her discretion, the committee chairs or vice chairs. Unless an exception is made by the President or existing committee by-laws, an appointment is made for a one year term.

The Committee Chair’s term runs from July 1 through June 30.

The Committee Chair:

  1. Maintains a regular committee meeting schedule and coordinates all dates with the Committee Coordinator at the Columbus Bar Association.
  2. Sets the agenda for each meeting and sends it to the Committee Coordinator three weeks prior to the meeting. *Please note that notices cannot be printed in the Daily Reporter until written notification has been received for each meeting.
  3. Recruits speakers for meetings, as the committee desires speakers.
  4. Notifies the Committee Coordinator at the Columbus Bar of any action that the committee has taken, or will take, which may require approval by the Columbus Bar Board of Governors.
  5. Is responsible for planning and coordinating at least one CLE program each year (for Substantive Law committee only).
  6. Will purchase a ticket to at least one Columbus Bar event such as the Annual Meeting, Awards Luncheon, MLK Luncheon, etc.
  7. Will work with the Director of Membership to recruit members to the Bar Association and the Committee.
  8. Will attend the annual Committee Chair Orientation program and other Committee Chair events as scheduled.
  9. Will make a concerted effort to become a sustaining member of the Columbus Bar Association.
  10. Keeps the Columbus Bar and its governing board apprised of legal developments relevant to your committee.
