Hurricane Harvey: How Lawyers Can Help
by Lisa Pierce Reisz, Columbus Bar President
Our hearts go out to all those affected by Hurricane Harvey. Many of those who have been harmed may not have the resources to seek legal assistance with insurance claims, and the headquarters of Lone Star Legal Aid in Houston were damaged last week after an apparent explosion and fire.
The American Bar Association is working closely with the State Bar of Texas to coordinate legal assistance efforts. The most effective way central Ohio attorneys can be of assistance is to support existing efforts like those being coordinated by the ABA. It takes tremendous resources to train and coordinate volunteers, and to deliver supplies in an efficient manner. As an attorney, if you would like to volunteer to help those in need, click here for details on how you can get involved, and please fill out this legal services survey.
The legal problems will persist long after the cleanup is completed, so we will continue to monitor and assist with mobilization efforts as needed.
