T. TED MOTHERAL, an associate with Benesch, has been elected to the 2013 Board of Directors of Habitat for Humanity of Ohio. He is a member of the firm’s corporate & securities group and focuses his practice on mergers and acquisitions as well as private debt and equity financing.
Nearly 150 high school students from across the state participated last week in Ohio’s We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution competition. The annual contest is sponsored by the Ohio Center for Law-Related Education. “These students represent our future and in a few short years, many will be actively engaged in applying the principles set forth in the U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights and other founding documents to resolve contemporary issues for their generation,” said Lisa Eschleman, OCLRE executive director.
JUSTICE JUDITH L. FRENCH was ceremonially sworn in as the 155th justice of the Ohio Supreme Court in the Statehouse Atrium last week. She officially took office on January 1, appointed by Gov. John Kasich in December after Justice Evelyn Lundberg Stratton announced her retirement. Justice French will run in the November 2014 general election to serve a full six-year term.
SHUMAKER, LOOP & KENDRICK served as special counsel in the $3.4 billon real estate investment trust acquisition of the Sunrise Senior Living, Inc. property portfolio, the sale of the company and the acceleration of all planned joint venture partner buy-outs. The Shumaker team assisted the company with aspects of the transaction, including due diligence, real estate and securities law matters.
