ADR Addresses Psychology for Lawyers
~ written by Vicki Jenkins, Chair, ADR Committee
Lawyers spend most of their time with other lawyers, clients, staff, mediators, arbitrators and judges. To be an effective lawyer, mediator or third party neutral, it requires a good understanding of how people think, interact and make decisions. Psychologists know much about how people think, interact with others and make decisions.
On Friday, March 8, the ADR Committee will meet with John L. Tilley PsyD to explore insights from psychology and how to apply them to increase your effectiveness as an arbitrator, mediator or lawyer. The meeting is at the Columbus Bar from noon to 1:00pm.
Dr. Tilley is owner and CEO of Behavioral Science Specialists LLC, providing behavioral health, medical, and forensic assessment, consultative, educational, and research services. He regularly conducts psychological evaluations for agencies and court systems in the Columbus metropolitan area. He has been an adjunct clinical faculty member at Capital University since 2001 where he teaches courses on psychology.
