Interfaith Legal Clinics: Volunteer and Make a Difference

The Interfaith free legal clinics in the Columbus area have grown steady since their beginning in 1999. With a recent opening in north Columbus, there are now nine clinics that operate on multiple days of the week each month for approximately two hours each evening.

We want to welcome and thank New Salem Baptist church – Gye Nyame Center located at 2830 Cleveland Avenue – for graciously opening their doors to the community in January. Each of the clinics provides brief advice to those who have legal issues and, in many cases, other assistance.

For those who work but have low income or those who have no work, hiring an attorney to answer questions concerning a legal issue – or whether or not there is a legal issue – is not an option. Well, these clinics do just that. They provide legal the advice and kindheartedness that so many people need today.

The Gye Nyame Center clinic is currently staffed by four attorneys and one paralegal, Coordinator Professor Vincene Verdun-Cox Esq, , attorneys Jocelyn Armstrong, Lynda Taylor, Tanya Askew, and paralegal Myra Conley.

Every clinic needs attorney volunteers that practice in areas of landlord tenant, domestic, criminal, unemployment benefits, public benefits, and estate planning. For those who volunteer, the Columbus Bar and the Legal Aid Society offer free CLE, announced throughout the year.
