Columbus Bar Interpreting Services - A New CBA Affiliate
If words are the tools of the legal profession, then understanding language is essential to administration of justice. The Columbus Bar gladly introduces its newest affiliate, Columbus Bar Interpreting Services (CBIS).
CBIS is designed to be a resource for area courts, attorneys, and other law-related agencies in need of Certified and Provisionally Certified Court Interpreters who are available to provide professional, dependable interpreting and translation services.
Interpreting Services was established to help the legal community comply with Supreme Court of Ohio Rule 88 that takes effect January 1, 2013, and requires that a Supreme Court of Ohio certified court interpreter be appointed whenever a party to or witness in a legal proceeding cannot readily understand or communicate because of a hearing, speech, or other impairment.
In addition to providing interpreting services, CBIS will monitor the Supreme Court’s requirements for Continuing Education for Certified Interpreters and to begin developing programs which meet those requirements. CBIS will also monitor the ongoing interpretation needs of the local courts in order to determine how the CBA may more effectively meet those needs.
For more information, or to schedule an interpreter for your hearing or deposition, please contact Shirley Coressel (shirley@cbalaw.org or 614/340.2075).
