JMLBA Holds Aspiring Attorney Conference

The John Mercer Langston Bar Association held its fourth biannual conference open to high school and undergraduate students last week hosted by the Columbus Bar. According to President Jennifer Adair, “This free conference would not be possible without the help of the entire legal community.” Law professors, deans and staff, as well as practitioners addressed the students covering essential topics.

Conference participants learned how to get into law school and succeed in college and law school; all about financial aid and financial planning, and finally, career mapping. The luncheon was held at the Ohio Statehouse. Recently appointed Judge of the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Ohio, the Hon. Benita Y. Pearson served as the keynote speaker. Appointed in 2010, Judge Pearson is the first African American female to serve as a United States District Judge in the State of Ohio.

Sponsors included Capital University Law School, OSU Moritz College of Law, Taft Stettinius & Hollister, Kegler Brown Hill & Ritter, Frost Brown Todd, Vorys Sater Seymour and Pease, Thompson Hine, Bricker & Eckler, Porter Wright Morris & Arthur, Carlile Patchen & Murphy, Nationwide, Toledo Law School and Kaplan.
