Barrister Leadership Program Accepting Applications

In today’s world of online professional networks and virtual organizations, it’s easy to obtain information and connect with colleagues without ever leaving your desk, but getting out and getting involved is invaluable to both your professional and personal development.

The Columbus Bar New Lawyer Committee offers a great opportunity for new lawyers to get involved and ultimately achieve more professional and personal success: The Barrister Leadership Program.

Designed to help new attorneys (five or fewer years of practice) develop leadership skills, connect with influential leaders in both the legal community and the city of Columbus, and build a successful law practice/career, the Barrister Leadership Program provides balance of classroom sessions, interactive exercises and networking/social activities. Participants will enhance their communication/listening skills; set personal and professional development goals; examine marketing/business development techniques; learn how to create and manage their online reputations; explore their interest in community service including taking a candid look at pros and cons of board service; develop practical negotiation techniques; and have the opportunity to review their ultimate career goals and plot the path to success.

The program meetings take place from 7:30am to 9:00am on the second Thursday of the month from January to June 2013. Breakfast is provided for each session. Networking and social events are held on various dates during the course of the program and a complete schedule will be provided prior to the first class meeting.

Members of the 2013 Barrister Leadership Program Planning Committee include: Christy Prince, Laura Hartnett, Brittany Baldwin, Kacey Chappelear, Celia Kilgard, Jonathan Tewart, Andy Clark, Adam Shank, and Laura Nesbitt.

Applications will be reviewed in November and individuals selected to participate in the program will be notified in early December. Participants will be responsible for a $125 enrollment fee upon acceptance to the program.
