Meet Richard Seils, Jr., ColumbusLawyerFinder.com

Richard Seils, Jr. (view ColumbusLawyerFinder.com profile)
Why did you decide to become an attorney?
I became intrigued by the law at a young age. The TV dramas and movies that depicted attorneys and the law surely enhanced my interest, but I was inherently fascinated by the power of the law to shape society.
What experiences (work and personal) help you to be a better attorney?
The most difficult experience in my life so far was losing my mom to leukemia as a teenager. Decades before most all of my peers, I learned how fragile life is and what it is like to lose someone so close and important to me. Losing my mom helped me understand the significance of discussing and planning for our own mortality (however difficult that might be). I also think it helps me understand the value of having someone you can trust assisting you during such a difficult time. Now, I embrace that responsibility.
Describe your personal interests and hobbies.
Spending time with friends and family tops this list here. (My wife may end up reading this.) I also love a good competition and spend a lot of time playing and/or watching sports. I enjoy playing golf the most, but I will play just about any sport that a middle-aged man can manage. And I really enjoy traveling.
Describe your charitable activities.
I am a frequent presenter and assist in preparing the materials for the Estate Planning portion of the Ohio Treasurer’s Smart Money Choices seminars that take place throughout the state. These are free seminars that help educate Ohioans on important financial and legal issues. I also volunteer my time to teach the Estate Planning class for the Dublin City Schools Community Education Series. I have volunteered as a Big Brother in the Boston and Columbus Big Brothers/Big Sisters programs.
