Summer Associates - Let the Games Begin!
The Legal Research and Information Resources Committee will present its Legal Research Games on Friday, June 1, from 8:30am to 2:30pm at the Columbus Bar. Don’t miss this opportunity for free instruction for first or second-year law students who are summer associates at law firms, courts, or government offices in Columbus.
This year’s seminar will feature Justice Yvette McGee Brown presenting “Keys to a Successful Experience as a Summer Associate and Lawyer.” Shawn Beem, Professional Development Capital University Law School, will follow with practical tips on how to adapt to the business environment, based on feedback received from law firms and government agencies. Columbus law librarians will offer breakout sessions with concurrent programs designed to enhance legal research skills, focusing on Ohio legal research. Jennifer Edwards of the Central Ohio Transit Authority will offer a session on legal writing. Kent Shimeall from the Office of the Ohio Attorney General will present on professional responsibility.
Panels of practicing attorneys will share insights on working and succeeding in the real world. Students can choose to attend a panel with attorneys from law firms or government agencies and courts.
The seminar will conclude with a session on cultural competency presented by Neal Semel of Diversity Matters.
