Yes, Virginia, There is Such a Thing as a Free Lunch
Lawyer Referral Service and Columbus Lawyer Finder have joined forces to help feed your mind and body. These two services that help to connect clients to lawyers are sponsoring the networking lunches to take place immediately before each of the segments of the Going Solo Boot Camp Series.
Lunches will begin at 12:30, with the 3.0 hour New Lawyer Training CLE portion of each event, 1pm - 4:15pm. The series, organized by Jamie Zitesman, is designed to provide guidance for attorneys who are considering going into solo practice, information to help them avoid getting into trouble, as well as topics that will help to better ensure their success.
Part One is scheduled for August 17; Part Two, September 27; and Part Three on October 24.The entire series is CLE Easy Pass eligible. If you do not have a pass, but were admitted in 2010 or 2011, you can attend the entire series for $200.
Beyond Boot Camp
Another critical resource for the solo practitioner is the committee for Solo Small Firm Practitioners. More than 50% of Columbus Bar members are in firms with 10 or fewer attorneys. Pointing out that small firm and solo practice attorneys are not alone is one important role for the Small Firm/Solo Practice Committee. The committee has developed programs to provide opportunities for members to network with attorneys in all practice areas.
Upcoming programs include Maryellen O'Shaughnessy (FC Clerk of Courts) to demonstrate and discuss the new E-filing program; private investigator Teresa Edwards to discuss self-help investigation (how to hire and use a private investigator); Howard Baumwell will help us collect unpaid fees; Andrew Baker will demonstrate his paperless cloud-based law office and iPad technology.
Committee meeting are at noon the third Thursday of the month, beginning September 15. Members can also take advantage of an email list to ask questions, share ideas, and start discussions. Send to smallsolo@lists.cbalaw.org. If you have ideas for the committee, email to the committee chair, Bryan M. Griffith, Sanborn Brandon Duval & Bobbitt at BGriffith@SBDBLaw.com.
