2011 Bankruptcy Law Institute
The annual Bankruptcy Law Institute is just around the corner. Slated for May 12-13, this program has been approved for 12.50 CLE hours including one hour ethics, one hour professionalism and 0.5 hour substance abuse.
Day One will kick off with a panel presentation on Professionalism - Civility Principles by The Honorable Charles M. Caldwell, Chief Judge, United States Bankruptcy Court, Southern District of Ohio; Beth A. Buchanan, Frost Brown Todd; and David M. Whittaker, Bricker & Eckler.
Local Case Law Update will be presented by Jim Coutinho, Strip Hoppers Leithart McGrath & Terlecky and John W. Kennedy followed by Developments in the Madoff Bankruptcy Case by Irving H. Picard, Baker Hostetler. Jessica Hamlin, Kegler Brown Hill & Ritter will be the guest speaker covering Optimize Your Professional Network: Leveraging Your Personal Brand in a Virtual World during the non-CLE lunch.
The day will continue with some role playing during the demonstration Trying Your Case: But I Need to Get it In, Judge! by Judge Pamela Pepper, United States Bankruptcy Court, Eastern District of Wisconsin, followed by Case Law Update by Chief Judge Barry S. Schermer, United States Bankruptcy Court, Eastern District of Missouri, and Samuel K. Crocker (Nashville, TN). This presentation will continue on day two and then followed by The Judge John E. Hoffman Jr., United States Bankruptcy Court, Southern District of Ohio, and Alvin E. Mathews Jr., Bricker & Eckler who will provide an hour of Ethics.
Kenneth R. Cookson, Kegler Brown; Terrence A. Grady, Terrence A. Grady & Assocs; and Terry Serena, IRS, will close the day-two morning CLE session with Navigating the Dangerous Intersection of Tax and Bankruptcy. Clifford J. White III, Director, Executive Office of the U.S. Trustee Washington, D.C., will deliver the non-CLE lunch presentation on Initiatives from the U.S. Trustee Program.
There will be two breakout sessions to choose from in the afternoon: 1) Fundamentals of Chapter 11 Practice with Susan L. Rhiel, Rhiel & Associates and Myron Terlecky, Strip Hoppers Leithart McGrath & Terlecky and 2) Complex Chapter 11 Issues with Judge C. Kathryn Preston, United States Bankruptcy Court, Southern District of Ohio; Alan Lepene, Thompson Hine; and Jeffrey A. Marks, Squire Sanders.
The afternoon will continue with Alternatives for Individuals Engaged in Business Including Chapter 11 by Anthony J. DeGirolamo (Canton OH); and William B. Logan Jr., Luper Neidenthal & Logan. The Bankruptcy Hangover: When the Creditor Won’t Take Its Collateral Back will be presented by Karen E. Hamilton and Pamela N. Maggied. Purely coincidence that the following and closing presentation segment will be Substance Abuse and Related Conditions by Douglas J. Althauser, Doug Althauser.
