Laissez le bon herbe rouler (Let the good sod roll on)!
~ written by Bruce Campbell
Laissez la bon herbe rouler (Let the good sod roll on)! That’s literally what’s happening in the CBA’s back yard as the humongous pleasure garden they are calling “Columbus Commons” is rapidly greening up. Old Woody was satisfied with "three yards and a cloud of dust” as his teams slogged down the turf at the Shoe, but the folks now laying the sod at the Commons are consistently doing fifty yards per snap with little dust and less sweat. They hitch a roll of the stuff about four fullbacks wide on the back of a dozer and spool it out straight down the field faster than a Pryor pass. While that is going on, trees are craned into large decorative pots, cement and gravel paths are materializing, and fountains are taking form. Come take a look-see.
The CBA’s proximity to this prime real estate could have benefits beyond a view that beats the Gatorade® out of looking at the bulging rear end of the erstwhile City Center. We’re thinking of sneaking down there at night, laying out a lime grid, and staging the first Super Bar football game between the Megafirm’s Fatcats and the Solo’s Junkyard Dogs. We’re trying to sign Timberlake and Jackson for the half-time show to be followed by the traditional script CBA by the Best Damn Marching Brief Case Drill Team in the Land.
