Accounting for Your Practice and As You Practice
Designed to address both worlds of practicing attorneys – the office and the court – "Accounting for Your Practice and As You Practice" will be held Tuesday, November 2 for 3.0 CLE hours. Peter Kimani, CPA, CFE, MSA of Anax Consultants, LLC; and Heather Deskins, CPA/CFF/ABV, CFE, CVA, P.D. of Eye Forensics LLC will provide an overview of accounting concepts and their applicability in managing the finances of a law firm. They will provide practical guidance on how to understand and apply common accounting terminology and concepts in the practice of law. Practice management topics covered will include terminology, double-entry accounting, cash vs. accrual, balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, tax returns, IRS requirements for tax reporting and internal accounting controls. Practicing law topics will include analysis of financial statements, business valuation methodology, fraud investigation techniques and how to get the most from your financial expert.
