Remembering James E. Phillips

James E. Phillips, our friend and colleague, died on August 11 after battling lung cancer.
Jim joined Vorys in 1979 and was a recognized expert in white collar criminal law who worked tirelessly on behalf of his clients and the profession. During his career, he served as general counsel and national legal advisor to the National Fraternal Order of Police, and was tapped as special prosecutor for the State of Ohio in the largest securities fraud case in the state’s history.
Jim founded the Ohio Center for Law Related Education and its Mock Trial program, was elected to the Columbus Bar Association’s Board of Governors, and was an adjunct professor at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. He was also a member of the American Bar Association’s Special Committee on Youth Education for Citizenship, and a life member of the 6th Circuit Judicial Conference.
We will treasure Jim’s loyalty, friendship and service to the Board. He will be missed by all who knew him.
