Intellectual Property - Forum for Ideas

~ written by Keith McCarthy, Intellectual Property Committee Chair

Columbus is uniquely positioned as a hub for technology, education, athletics, government, arts, fashion, and industry. To serve this diverse community, fields of law covered by the new Intellectual Property Committee will range from trademark, copyright, and patent to sports and entertainment law. In these fields, members and guests will enjoy topic discussions ranging from licensing and litigation, copyright to counterfeiting.

On any given Tuesday, the people you meet will represent diverse fields of practice and industry. In this committee, one can expect to be working with anyone from members of law enforcement, legal aid, large firm practitioners, to private business owners, students and educators.

As an initial topic area of discussion, the committee will focus on the impact of counterfeiting and IP infringement – their tremendous effects on the economy. Jobs are lost, tax revenue decreases, and public safety is compromised by spurious goods. The committee looks forward to building a strong membership and providing the most up-to-date IP law resources and CLE programming.

Enthusiastic individuals are urged to participate in the committee's launch and CLE programming. Meetings are noon on the first Tuesday of the month. The first meeting is September 2. Join the committee online at the Intellectual Property Committee website, or contact donna@cbalaw.org. Come mix with other IP professionals and be a part of the new IP Committee. Meet, share ideas, and effect change!
