Green Committee to Meet in Squire Sanders' LEED Gold Certified Offices
Earlier this year, Alex Shumate, Managing Partner of Squire Sanders & Dempsey's Columbus office, wrote an article on the firm's new LEED Gold certified office space in the Huntington Center (Columbus Bar Lawyers Quarterly, Winter, 2010). Alex described the firm's approach to "sustainable" new space in four categories – social, economic, environmental and cultural – and said they decided to pursue LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification to achieve balance among the categories. He detailed the extensive factors that were addressed in the process, including use of locally produced materials, diversion of waste material from landfills through reuse and recycling, promotion of indoor air quality, and energy and water conservation. And, Alex noted several positive business development impacts from the decision to "go LEED."
Squire Sanders has graciously offered to host the July 20 meeting of the Columbus Bar Green Committee. If you are interested in seeing the sustainable results of the firm's LEED efforts (regardless of whether you are or are not part of the Green Committee), please join us at noon at the Squire Sanders offices in the Huntington Center, 41 South High. Space is limited, so please let Donna Sweet (614/221.4112; donna@cbalaw.org) know if you will attend.
