The 2010 Summer Associate Seminar: Summer Success--Practical Tips and Strategies
The Legal Research and Information Resources Committee will present its 2010 Summer Associate Seminar, Summer Success: Practical Tips & Strategies, on Friday, May 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Columbus Bar offices, 175 South Third Street, 11th Floor. Don’t miss this opportunity for free instruction for your first or second-year law students who are summer associates at law firms, courts, or government offices in Columbus.
This year’s seminar will feature The Honorable William A. Klatt, 10th District Court of Appeals for the State of Ohio, with "Ten Lessons a Youth Must Learn." Shawn Beem, Associate Director for Career Services at Capital University Law School, will follow with practical tips on how to adapt to the business environment, based on feedback he has received from law firms and government agencies. Columbus law librarians will then offer breakout sessions with concurrent programs designed to enhance the legal research skills of the students, focusing on Ohio legal research. Jennifer Edwards, an attorney from Porter Wright Morris & Arthur, will offer a session on Legal Writing. A session on professional responsibility, presented by Kent Shimeall of the Office of the Ohio Attorney General, will also be offered.
The seminar will also include panels of practicing attorneys, who will share their insights on working and succeeding in the real world. The students can choose to attend a panel with attorneys from law firms or government agencies and courts.
The seminar will conclude with a session on cultural competency presented by Neal Semel of Diversity Matters.
