Notice: Change in Passport Requirements

Passports are now necessary for border crossings to Canada and Mexico, as well as for any travel by plane. “The passport requirement for border crossings took effect just last year, so we’re trying to raise awareness with vacationers and travelers,” said Clerk O’Shaughnessy. The Clerk's office serves as a passport acceptance agent, taking in passport applications and relaying them to the Department of State for approval.

The fee for an adult passport book is $100: $75 is payable to the U.S. Department of State, and a $25 execution fee is payable to the Franklin County Clerk of Courts.

You can also apply for a less expensive passport card, valid only for sea or land crossings from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean region and Bermuda. Processing time is approximately 4 to 6 weeks. Call the National Passport Information Center at 877/487.2778 if you have questions.
