McGranahan Receives McCormac Award

PACO and the Columbus Bar congratulate Kathy McGranahan for receiving The Honorable John W. McCormac 2009 Award, given to a paralegal for outstanding service to the profession. Kathy is a litigation paralegal working for Chester, Willcox & Saxbe and with Scioto Properties LLC as a housing support coordinator. She serves as an adjunct professor at Capital, and she is involved with the Scioto Ridge job networking group. She has been on PACO's board, worked with its many committees, and started up its first website. With the OSBA, Kathy participated in creating the criteria and testing requirements for the paralegal accreditation program.

The award is named for Judge McCormac who was among the first in the county to envision a new level of employee who could perform substantive legal work under the direct supervision and direction of an attorney, thus giving the attorney time to handle more intricate matters. He brought the idea to Capital and the Columbus Bar and together in joint venture, they founded the first paralegal program in the country.

The McCormac Award is given annually by Capital University Law School and the Columbus Bar.
