Masters Series: Evidence & Hearsay on October 23 with Selected Shorts

The Masters Series continues this month with Evidence & Hearsay slated for Friday October 23, 9:00am to 5:00pm. The morning kicks off with Judge John P. Bessey, Common Pleas Court, and Richard S. Walinski, Cooper & Walinski, presenting “20th Century Evidence Rules in a 21st Century World.” Ric Simmons, Moritz College of Law, follows with “Common Evidence Problems,” finishing out the morning session.

Mason Evans, Porter Wright Morris & Arthur, will start the afternoon with “Spoliation: Avoiding the Fast Track to Liability.” This will lead into a panel discussion to include topics such as difficult day-to-day issues, discovery disputes, admission and exclusion of expert testimony, and evidence and hearsay issues that frequently cause lawyers to stumble. The panelists will be judges from the Common Pleas Court: Guy L. Reece, II; Charles A. Schneider; and Patrick E. Sheeran. They will be joined by Robert M. Krivoshey, Moritz College of Law.

The day finishes with dramatic demonstration – two courtroom skits illustrating how topics covered that day come together in real life court. Roles will be played by Judge Richard A. Frye, Common Pleas Court; Steve Chappelear, Hahn Loeser; Bob Palmer, Robert Gray Palmer Company; J. Stephen Teetor, Isaac Brant Ledman & Teetor; and Monica L. Waller, Lane, Alton & Horst.

The Masters Series continues this fall with the unique Lincoln on Professionalism session on November 19. Lincoln on Professionalism, prepared and produced by the Atlanta Bar Association in corporation with the Georgia Chief Justice’s Commission on Professionalism, comprises a series of extremely engaging documentary vignettes that bring to life Lincoln’s legal and personal professionalism.
