National Organization Installs Columbus Leader
Sharon Chappelear is the new president of the American Lawyers Auxiliary, 2009-2010, a national network of lawyers' spouses affiliated with the American Bar Association. Founded in 1958, the ALA is a charitable and educational non-profit organization with individual and institutional members nationwide.
The mission of the Auxiliary is to promote understanding of the American legal system through a national network of lawyers' spouses; to provide a communication network to bring its unique strengths to the preservation and enhancement of the American legal system; and to preserve the integrity of legal heritage through citizenship education.
Each year the ALA recognizes teachers, concerned citizens, auxiliaries, and individual members who have excelled in their support of these goals. Columbus, Cincinnati and Toledo Bar Associations are the three associations with auxiliaries in Ohio. There are more than 90 state and local affiliate groups nationwide.
Sharon is the wife of Stephen E. Chappelear, managing partner of the Columbus office of Hahn Loeser + Parks and a past president of the Columbus Bar. Their daughter, Kacey Chappelear, is an attorney with the Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and the newly appointed chair of the Columbus Bar New Lawyers Committee.
