Mentoring Across Generations: Minority Clerkship Program Summer Lunch
During the second lunch for the summer, first and second year law clerks of color “paid it forward” by hosting eight high school students from the Supreme Court’s Law & Leadership Summer Institute on July 8 at the Columbus Bar offices. These tenth graders joined the 2009 MCP class of 37 students from Capital and Moritz law schools in listening to speakers and networking with Minorities in the Law Committee members.
This session was the second of a two-part summer lunch series with committee co-chairs Philip King and Karim Ali serving as lead hosts. Sharing tips for success with the students were the speakers of the day Dawn Hays, currently a member of the Columbus Bar Board of Governors and associate at Hahn Loeser + Parks; and Albert Lin, immediate past president of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Central Ohio and current General Counsel for the Ohio Attorney General. This is the twenty-third year for the MCP and the second for the LLSI. The high school students are participating in four day internships with local law firms as a part of their five week summer pipeline program, designed to prepare promising youth from underserved schools and disadvantaged communities to compete at high academic levels and facilitate the pursuit of higher education.
