Why did you decide to become an attorney?
I come from a family of farmers, so the law was not a career that I was exposed to very much. Still, it became apparent to me that being a lawyer was a profession that allowed me to help others (and being able to do so in an air-conditioned office instead of working in a hot field).
What made you choose your primary area of law?
I find representing individuals particularly gratifying. Often they are overwhelmed by the system, and we can help navigate them through the process.
What makes your law firm unique?
Our firm focuses on representing employees, individuals and employee organizations. For instance, we will represent injured workers in their workers' compensation claims; we will not represent employers who are fighting injured workers.
Describe your ideal client.
All of our clients need help; otherwise, they wouldn't be calling us. Our ideal client is one who is prepared when we meet and can provide the information we need to best represent the client.
Significant cases:
As counsel for Amicus Curiae Ohio Association of Professional Fire Fighters, filed brief in case in which the Ohio Supreme Court upheld the residency rights of Ohio public employees. As counsel for Amicus Curiae Ohio Association of Professional Fire Fighters, filed brief in case in which the Ohio Supreme Court upheld the rights of Ohio safety forces to recover for their injuries.
