Pro Bono Annual Breakfast
Columbus Bar President Kathleen Trafford thanked everyone present for performing over 30,000 pro bono hours in 2008 and introduced Attorney General Richard Cordray, Judge Elizabeth Gill, Magistrate Dee Krippel, Judge Carrie Glaeden, Judge John Hoffman, Judge William Klatt, Judge Guy Reece, Judge Stephen McIntosh, and Chief Magistrate Mark Froehlich who collectively provided an overview of their respective courts, their pro bono programs and the nature of current unmet need. Attorney General Cordray focused on the need for volunteer attorney mediators in the housing foreclosure crisis. Judge Klatt (chair, OSBA 10th District Court of Appeals Pro Bono committee) noted the culture of pro bono in Columbus that enjoys the support from both law school clinics, Legal Aid, the judiciary, the private bar, and the Columbus Bar. The judges thanked everyone for their commitment to pro bono and encouraged all lawyers to volunteer to take one case a year, noting if every lawyer took one case, it would make a difference in the efficiency of the courts and in the lives of the poor.
