Nationwide, Save the Dream, and Brian Basil to be Honored

Columbus Bar Foundation President Charles Warner this week announced the 2008 Columbus Bar Foundation and Association joint pro bono awards to be presented at the annual meeting, October 31, to Brian Basil for Outstanding Pro Bono Service by an Individual; Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company Corporate Legal Department for Outstanding Pro Bono Service by a Corporate Legal Department; and to Save the Dream-Ohio’s Foreclosure Prevention Pro Bono Project for Outstanding Pro Bono Service Project.

The Columbus Bar Pro Bono program is jointly funded by the Columbus Bar and the Foundation through matching grants to the CBA. To date the Foundation has awarded over $725,000 in grants to the pro bono program (includes a 50% match by the CBA). In 2006, the most recent reported data, over 30,000 pro bono service hours were donated by Columbus lawyers through a variety of programs.

Ohio Attorney General Nancy Rogers will be the featured speaker at the meeting. James Arnold, Stephen Buchenroth and Thomas Hill have all been nominated as new trustees to serve on the Foundation board. James Davidson and Robert Palmer are nominated for second terms. Other members of the board are David Alexander, Sandra Anderson, Sharon Chappelear, Ivan Fong, Paul Giorgianni, the Hon. Carrie Glaeden, Fordham Huffman, Francine Jacobs, the Hon. Stephen McIntosh, Robert Meyer, Frank Ray, Stanley Ross, and Heather Sowald. Michael Mahoney serves as counsel and Benjamin Zox as development director.

The Columbus Bar Foundation Annual Meeting and Pro Bono Awards Luncheon will be held October 31, noon at the Hyatt on Capitol Square. Cost is $40.00 per person/$400.00 per table. Make checks payable to the Columbus Bar Foundation.
