Revision of Mileage Reimbursement Guidelines

Ohio Court Clerks; County Commissioners; County Auditors; and Assigned Counsel Attorneys

From: Tim Young, Ohio Public Defender

Re: Indigent Defense – Mileage Reimbursement

We are aware of the recent large increase in gasoline and transportations costs. Although we are revising our guidelines for reimbursement for appointed counsel, this will not be completed soon enough to grant the immediate relief this issue requires. I am, therefore, issuing this directive, pursuant to ORC 120.04 (7), increasing the mileage reimbursement
rate for properly documented travel expenses on the attorney certification/fee application, to the rate adopted by the Ohio Office of Budget and Management as the standard business
mileage rate. (The current standard business rate is 50.5 cents/mile.)

This new rate will take effect for fee applications submitted to the appropriate court on or after August 1, 2008.
