Civil War presentations slated for May
Just as there were two battles at Bull Run/Manassas, there will be TWO Civil War presentations this year.
On May 16, Friday noon, John Montgomery will present "The Naval Battle of Memphis: The Best Navy the Army Ever Built," which will cover the important but overlooked battle on the waters of the Mississippi which opened the way for Grant's Vicksburg campaign. And that is no typo, the Army was afloat. You will have to attend to get all the details.
And on May 29, Thursday also noon, we will be honored to have District Judge James Graham present "Clement Vallandigham: A Copper Colored Trial Lawyer From Ohio's History." I think we all know a little about Ohio's most famous or infamous Confederate sympathizer, but Judge Graham will cover his life and legal career (yes, he was one of us, an Ohio attorney at law) in depth. Again, you will have to attend to get all the details.
As usual, please feel free to invite your partners, associates, colleagues, and friends to our historically minded little group. Both meeting are at the Columbus Bar offices.
