In Remembrance
~ written by Lloyd D. Cohen
Mitchel D. Cohen passed away on March 24, 2008. He was 89 years of age, a decorated war veteran and recipient of the French Medal of Valor, a graduate of Franklin School of Law (Capital Law School) and over the next 50 years practiced what he called “Main Street Law” in Columbus.
After attending an original (1979) workshop for the “new” Chapter 13, he filed the first consumer’s Chapter 13 Bankruptcy case in our district and became a noted advocate for the financial needs of the working person and the veteran. After retiring in 1997, he remarried and relocated to Florida.
He is survived by his wife, three children and six grandchildren. His son Matthew is a local real estate developer; son, Marshall, like me, Lloyd, is a local bankruptcy lawyer. My father had a zest for life and since he did not believe in funerals or cemeteries, a simple memoriam is his only tribute. He will be missed.
