In Remembrance

Paula Kerns, freelance probate paralegal, passed away in her sleep on Saturday, January 5, at age 63.
A Parkersburg, West Virginia, native and long-time resident of Westerville, Paula began her career as a legal secretary for attorneys Jim Pyle and Rob Drake at Reese Pyle Drake & Meyer, in Newark. After receiving her degree in legal assisting from Capital University in 1981, Paula worked as a probate paralegal for attorney Tom Bonasera at Crabbe Brown Jones Potts & Schmidt, and later at Thompson Hine, before hanging out her shingle as a freelance paralegal in 1994.
Paula displayed tremendous empathy and a special talent for putting clients at ease in their time of grief. In the course of her legal career, she earned the respect of her professional colleagues and attorneys, not only for her vast knowledge and technical expertise in the field of probate law, but also for her strong sense of commitment and professionalism.
Paula was a devoted daughter, loving mother, doting grandmother, respected colleague, and friend to many. She will be sorely missed by those whose lives she touched.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 13, at Moreland Funeral Home in Westerville.
