NECC Intern--Super Employee

~ written by Paula Coulter, Director of Columbus Bar Placement

Students who receive training in the legal career technologies program at Northeast Career Center often go from intern to employee in the law offices where they are first placed.

Shirley Coressel (Dinsmore & Shohl) says Brandon Gamble is a good example of this. Brandon was an intern at Dinsmore through the NECC in the spring and hired by the firm soon after graduation. He currently works in their Columbus office, preparing conference rooms for depositions and other meetings. He boxes files to go to off-site storage, assists the secretaries with filing, delivers mail and faxes, and fills in where needed. He was recently trained in WestLaw research and has helped produce trial documents. General office personnel who can handle a variety of tasks quickly become an invaluable resource in law firms.

Ms. Coressel says the staff is “thrilled” with Brandon’s performance (one of the attorneys said that Brandon often dresses more professionally than the attorneys.) She added that they appreciate how conscientious he is, how much he has grown in the job, and how much they appreciate his willingness to take on extra responsibilities.

Using interns from Northeast Career Center has proven to be a good resource for recruiting entry level office staff. If you would like information on an intern for your office, contact Sandy Cox at NCC, 614/365.5478, ext. 237, or SCox2706@columbus.k12.oh.us.
