Call for volunteer judges: Ohio State undergraduate mock trial program

The third annual Scarlet and Gray Mock Trial Invitational, on campus the weekend of October 27-28, is calling for additional volunteers to be judges. This year's competition will draw 20 teams from colleges across the country in addition to several teams from OSU's own mock trial program.

Invitational tournaments provide crucial competitive experience necessary for success at the regional and national level. Volunteers sit on a two-person panel and judge the students' presentation of a simulated court case. Using opinions and scores these teams can experience real law professionals' opinions to aid in the improvement of the teams' performance in the future. There are four rounds spread over two days. Volunteers may judge one round, one day, or the entire tournament.

The rounds are scheduled to start at 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday, and 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Sunday. There will be a judges' meeting one half hour before the start of each round, and a pizza lunch will be served in between rounds 3 and 4 on Sunday the 28.

The goal of the Undergraduate Mock Trial team is to continue learning the law and developing a love and understanding for it before attempting higher learning in law fields. This club develops professional skills and enables students to become strong independent thinkers and good public speakers. For more information, contact OhioStateMockTrial@gmail.com.
