Managing your legal practice

Of all the legal courses you took in law school, perhaps one of the most helpful would have been how to manage a law office. Having an expert help you with your legal practice may be the smartest decision you could make in managing your practice.

On Thursday, April 19, Steve Anderson of Integrated Leadership Systems will help you manage your legal practice so that it does not manage you in his course “Management for Lawyers,” presented from 1:30 to 4:45 p.m. for 3.0 hours of CLE credit.

Anderson will explain the difference between leadership and management, discussing the five functions of management you didn’t learn in law school. He will also explain the importance of making a plan for the law office, including organizing and implementing the overall plan and how to direct others. Finally, he will discuss taking and keeping control of your practice with particular emphasis on staffing decisions such as hiring, writing job descriptions, recruiting staff, effective interviewing techniques and the thorny topic of termination.
