Schermer Scholarship concert fundraiser nets over $10,000

Pianist Steward Goodyear lit up the night for the 2007 Schermer Scholarship fundraiser, performing Gershwin’s Concerto for Piano in F Major with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Guest Conductor Peter Wilson. His fiery performance received a heartfelt standing ovation.

The fundraiser netted over $10,000 through the generous support of friends and the sponsorship of Jones Day, Kegler Brown Hill & Ritter, LexisNexis, Terry and Cindy O’Connell and Time Warner Cable.

The Schermer Scholarship Fund of the Columbus Bar Foundation, established in memory of Marsha Schermer, provides law school scholarship for women and minorities who have financial need and who have demonstrated leadership and commitment to the community. To date the fund has awarded eight scholarships: Amy Stuckey ‘05, Lisa Whitaker ‘07, and Tonya McCreary Williams ’06, OSU Moritz; and Mark Hatcher ‘06, Shawnda Martin ‘06, Sara Denise Roig ’07, Megan Mathews ’08, and Lucy Chandler ’09, Capital University Law.

The $300,000 Schermer Scholarship Fund gives up to $30,000 in scholarships annually. The Fund’s advisory committee is comprised of Chair Doug Wrightsel, Sally Bloomfield, Mark Hatcher, Reginald Jackson, Mary Jo Green and Amy Swank.

Past concerts have included Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Hannibal Lokumbe’s African Portraits, and double bassist Edgar Meyer. For more information about the Scholarship Fund contact the Columbus Bar Foundation at 614/221.4112.
