ALA is an active partner with the Northeast Career Center’s Legal Technology Program. The Legal Career Development Committee, chaired by Becky Von Ohlen, has worked diligently over the past several years to assist in redesigning the course curriculum, hosting students for a five week internship; assisting with resume writing and interviewing skills; and by members volunteering their time and efforts to assist instructors.
In addition, ALA has a Small Firm Administrators’ Forum, which meets quarterly in an open round table format to discuss matters of interest to firms with less than 25 attorneys. Internationally, approximately 50 percent of the membership works in firms with less than 29 attorneys. The next Small Firm Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 14 at 11:30 a.m. at Curley Patterson & Bush. Contact Marilyn Jewell at mjewell@cpb-law.com for additional information.
ALA’s annual Member/Vendor Golf Outing will be held on Wednesday, September 13 at the Golf Club of Dublin. Golfers and non-golfers alike enjoy this casual afternoon of fun on the links with Central Ohio vendors who support chapter events throughout the year. If you are interested in more information about this enjoyable event, please contact Janet Hannaway at jhannaway@bdblaw.com; Eric Marin at emartin@bakerlaw.com; or Rob Sander at rsander@wileslaw.com. Vendors interested in learning more about the Columbus Chapter ALA and how to get more involved, please contact Rob Sander.
ALA has built a tradition of offering education opportunities to help meet the evolving needs of law office managers. The annual International Education Conference & Exposition was held May 1 through 4 in Montreal, Canada. In addition to ALA’s Annual Education Conference and Exposition, the association sponsors regional conferences to offer affordable educational opportunities to members of the legal management team. The Region 3 Educational Conference will be held October 6 and 7 this year in Columbus.
