New Lawyers connect to SLIP students
The Columbus Bar invites all new lawyers to reach out to a special group of aspiring attorneys at the Columbus Public High School through the Summer Leadership Intern Program, which carefully screens, trains and mentors students during a summer internship at a local law firm.
Even the busiest associate can lend a hand to these young people as they negotiate the challenges of entering the professional world. Participate in one or all of the following service opportunities.
Lunch Drive: Donate a gift certificate for lunch or non-perishable lunch or snack items. $5-10 denominations of gift certificates are preferred; fast food is fine. Recommended food items are energy bars; granola bars; peanut butter crackers; instant mac and cheese; and canned pasta, soup or chili.
New Lawyers Roundtable: Please join the student interns on July 22 for informal conversation over lunch. Your advice, guidance and support can be a lifeline to students in the confusing world of downtown firms.
Be a mentor: If you are interested in maintaining contact with one of the students throughout the summer, please contact Lara Bertsch at lara@cbalaw.org or 614/221.4112.
The New Lawyers committee looks forward to building relationships with SLIP students, remembering the traumas of adolescence, the challenges of being a newcomer in this profession and all the tips and tricks for getting adjusted quickly, New Lawyers have much to offer.
