Judge Michael J. Holbrook, Franklin County Court of Common Pleas, has organized a 3.0 CLE seminar titled "Basics of Court Appointments," slated for Friday, September 17 from 1:30-4:45pm. He will be joined by Judge Kim A. Browne and Judge Anne Taylor.

Employers seeking to measure medical inflation now have the ability to obtain precise information regarding how healthcare reform will impact their particular group health plan.

Under changes to the Supreme Court of Ohio Rule governing the Unauthorized Practice of Law (UPL), the Ohio Attorney General will be authorized to investigate and prosecute UPL cases starting September 1. Justices concurred 7-0 in adopting the amendments.

The recently passed Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act prohibits group health plans from canceling, or rescinding, coverage of an enrolled individual once the enrollee is covered except in cases of intentional misrepresentation or fraud.

Public comment will be accepted until July 20 on a new rule that would authorize juvenile courts to issue civil protection orders against juveniles and standardized forms with instructions about how to petition the court for a protection order.

Carl Smallwood and Judge McIntosh accepted the Outstanding Organization Award for the Columbus Bar's Managing Partners Diversity Initiative from JMLBA President Anthony Sharett and Treasurer Jennifer Adair at an award ceremony held on May 27.

In addition to the clerking, the class of 2010 will engage in a variety of other activities. This year the Minorities in the Law committee planned a speaker series with lunch, which includes a networking opportunity with attorneys.
