Columbus Bar Services, Inc.
A
wholly-owned subsidiary of the Columbus Bar Association, CBS, Inc. was created
in January, 1984 to handle services provided by the Columbus Bar which at that
time were subject to Federal Income Tax and to develop additional services of
economic benefit to Columbus Bar members.
CBS
Agency, Inc.
Created in June of 1988 to provide insurance products for CBA members and
their employees. As of November of 2000, it also administers a Probate Bond
Program in Franklin County.
CBA
Realty Services, Inc.
Created in February of 1998 to provide commercial real estate services for
CBA members and their clients.
Ohio Notary Association, Inc.
Created in 1998 to provide services to notaries public throughout the State
of Ohio.
CBS and its subsidiaries file a consolidated federal income tax return (Form
1120) and a consolidated city income tax return. Franchise tax returns and personal
property tax returns are filed individually. Expenses are allocated from the
CBA to CBS based on staff time and facility usage using a methodology developed
by our accountants to comply with IRS regulations.
Board
Currently, the CBS Board is comprised of eleven Directors, all of whom serve
until their replacement is elected. The Board is divided into three classes,
with each class consisting of three Directors who serve a term of three years.
No Director may serve more than two consecutive three-year terms. The remaining
two Board members consist of the Secretary/Treasurer and Executive Director
of the Columbus Bar Association.
Staffing
Columbus Bar Services, Inc. currently has no employees. It shares both facilities
and staff with the CBA.
