Applications are currently being accepted.

Sales Tax on Ohio Lawyers?

The $63.3 billion, two-year state budget Kasich introduced last week calls for lowering the sales-tax rate from 5.5 percent to 5 percent, while applying the tax to additional areas — including entertainment, cable TV, and certain services. The plan would exempt child care, rent, medical and other basic services.

Many Opt for Private Judges in Franklin County

Clients seeking an uncontested divorce or dissolution used to express surprise when Columbus attorney Andrew Grossman told them that hiring a private judge could make the process easier.

Now, a lot of them say, 'Yeah, I've heard about that,'" he said.

A statute allowing private judges to handle civil cases in Ohio has been on the books for nearly 40 years but has gained popularity in the past decade in Franklin County Domestic Relations Court.

Hard Work Pays Off for Court Interpreters

Twenty-one court interpreters were certified during the Third Annual Court Interpreter Certification Ceremony at the Thomas J. Moyer Ohio Judicial Center on Feb. 4.

The certification ensures that interpreters working in the courts meet the minimum standards of language fluency and makes it possible for courts to provide the most qualified interpreters.

The CBA recently launched a new affiliate, Columbus Bar Interpreting Services (CBIS), as a resource for area courts, attorneys, and other law-related agencies in need of Supreme Court of Ohio Certified and Provisionally Certified Court Interpreters.
