Columbus Bar inc Accepting Applications Through Friday
Applicants must be licensed to practice in Ohio, have been in practice for five years or less, and a Columbus Bar member.
Columbus Bar inc (short for "incubator") is a program intended to accelerate the successful development of new lawyers. Participating attorneys access resources that help them build a solo practice. Through educational programming and interaction with mentors, the program aims to reduce the learning curve and false starts for the benefit of the lawyers and the clients that they serve.
By the beginning of 2013, 19 graduates will have completed the program or transitioned to full-time employment with local law firms and agencies. In addition to the individual successes, the program was recognized on a national level when it was awarded the 2012 Solo and Small Firm Project Award by the American Bar Association.
Sean Casey, former Columbus Bar inc participant and current Of Counsel with a local law firm, said "The training elements and the time and wisdom graciously donated by the mentors alleviates much of the uncertainty new solo attorneys face.”

Judicial Candidates Can Raise More: Campaign Limits Go Up 5.3% in Ohio
On December 7, the Ohio Supreme Court boosted campaign-contribution limits for judges by 5.3%, in line with the national Consumer Price Index. The changes take effect on January 1.
Other new rules include allowing candidates to solicit campaign cash through text messaging, and greater restrictions on use of the title of judge by those who do not hold the office.
What are the new limits?
Supreme Court Adopts Rules of Practice Amendments
The Ohio Supreme Court has announced the adoption of reorganized and renumbered Rules of Practice that mirror the flow of a case before the Supreme Court.
The reorganization presents a more logical ordering of the rules for attorneys and self-represented litigants that is intended to help them locate filing requirements, according to Kristina Frost, Clerk of the Court.
Many of the other changes are clarifying and non-substantive, but there are a few substantive changes.

Report Finds Legal Aid Adds Millions to Ohio Economy
The Ohio Legal Assistance Foundation has released a report that found Ohio's legal aids generated $106 million in total economic impact in 2010, including $5.6 million in state, county, and municipal tax revenue.
"We now have hard statistical data that should fundamentally change the discussion about the importance of legal aid,” said Angela Lloyd, executive director of the Foundation. “In addition to the issues of fairness and justice, legal aid should now be looked at in light of its economic benefits, and its ability to stabilize Ohio families, neighborhoods and communities."

Study Finds Behavioral Shift in How Consumers Find Attorneys
According to the Attorney Selection Research Study by The Research Intelligence Group (TRiG), 76% of consumers in the United States who sought an attorney in the past year used online resources at some point in their selection process, as compared to 73% of consumers who turned to friends and family for assistance at some point during the process.
This is the first known time a study of this nature has found that online resources are on par with personal referrals for how consumers find attorneys.
