2011 Franklin County Municipal Court Judicial Election Results
Franklin County Municipal Court Judge Eric S. Brown was defeated by James P. O’Grady. Franklin County Municipal Court Judge W. Dwayne Maynard was defeated by David C. Young. A margin of 156 votes separates Franklin County Municipal Court Judge Andrea Peeples who received 122,293 votes to 122,137 votes for Barbara Pfeiffer. Voters also re-elected Judge Michael T. Brandt, who was unopposed.
In addition, Ohio voters rejected Issue 1, which would have raised the maximum age at which a judge could be elected to office to 75.

Ohio Judicial Center to be Named in Honor of Late Chief Justice Thomas J. Moyer
On Friday, December 2, the Ohio Judicial Center will be dedicated in the name of the late Chief Justice Thomas J. Moyer. The ceremony – which will also include unveiling Chief Justice Moyer’s official portrait – will be conducted during a session of the Supreme Court.

More than 950 Applicants Pass July 2011 Ohio Bar Exam
The Supreme Court of Ohio Office of Bar Admissions released the results of the July 2011 Ohio Bar Exam, which was administered in Columbus July 26 through July 28. Out of the 1,176 applicants who sat for the exam, 959 (81.6 percent) received passing scores; out of 1,080 first-time applicants, 86.1 percent received passing scores.

Pro Bono Celebration 2011
The Columbus Bar Association and Foundation's Annual Pro Bono Celebration took place on Thursday, October 27, 5:00pm at the Columbus Bar offices. The Foundation and the Columbus Bar Association have jointly funded the administration of the pro bono program since 1992, providing free assistance to thousands of people.
The Columbus Bar pro bono program continues to work in partnership with the Legal Aid Society of Columbus, garnering more volunteers and evolving to be more responsive to the needs of the community in this time of great need.

Support the Media Center at the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center
The Barnes & Noble at 3685 W. Dublin-Granville Rd. (near Sawmill) and the Columbus Bar Association Alliance will host a Book Fair to support the Media Center at the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center on Saturday, November 26. A percentage of eligible purchases made at the Sawmill Road location will be donated to the Open Books Open Minds Fund of the Columbus Bar Foundation. Please mention participation in the Book Fair in order for the purchase to be counted.
Open Books Open Minds purchases age-appropriate paperback books (currently 4,000 volumes), magazines, and computer software for the Center. The fund also purchases study materials and pays the testing fees for GED exams.
