Chief Justice Maureen O'Connor Records Pro Bono Video Statement Watch Chief Justice O’Connor's statement encouraging Ohio’s attorneys to report their 2010 pro bono activities. The CBA strongly supports the efforts of Chief Justice O'Connor and encourages all our members to report their pro bono hours anonymously so that we have an accurate count. The CBA pro bono survey indicated that over 30,000 hours were donated by central Ohio lawyers in 2009 (2010 has not been compiled). Supreme Court of Ohio Initiative Wins National Recognition A program piloted by the Supreme Court in 2008 was recognized for excellence by the American Bar Association Friday at the group’s mid-year meeting in Atlanta. The Ohio Law and Leadership Institute, which provides legally based instruction and leadership training to students in underserved communities, was lauded for establishing a pipeline program for those intending to complete college and enter the legal profession. The institute received honorable mention in the Raymond Pace and Sadie Tanner Mossell Alexander Award Competition for Excellence in Pipeline Diversity. Marion Smithberger congratulated LLI on their award and said, "The Columbus Bar Foundation, through the generosity of its donors, is proud to have been a financial supporter of Law and Leadership Institute in Columbus from the very beginning, providing stipends to law student teachers who are involved in the program."
