Email Attachment Problems Solved with YouSendIt
by Barron Henley, Esq., Affinity Consulting Group, LLC
As you probably know, there are a host of potential problems associated with sending and receiving email attachments. I'd like to share with you a service which makes dealing with email attachments easy - www.yousendit.com. First, it allows you to send very large files (up to 2 GB or 2,000 MB) via email without worrying about whether the intended recipient's email system will reject it due to the size.
YouSendIt does this by removing large attachments from your email (upon your request) and storing them on their secure servers. The recipient of your email gets the same text of the email you sent, but the attachment is replaced with a clickable link in the body of the email. The reader just clicks the link to download the attachment.
YouSendIt also offers a Dropbox feature which allows others to send you large files as well (regardless of whether they have a YouSendIt account). Additional email features include password protection (the email cannot be opened without the password you make up), certified delivery, return receipt (the recipient cannot prevent you from being notified), and file expiration options (attachments will become unavailable if not downloaded within a certain number of days).
It works on Windows or Mac and offers free plugins for Outlook, Acrobat, Microsoft Office and several other applications. A "lite" account is free and pay plans are available for individuals and businesses depending upon what features you're looking for. I have a "Pro Plus" account for $14.99/month which gives me everything I've previously described.
